Teaching

Got a burning Sketch question? Wondering what Design Thinking buzzwords actually mean? I got you.

UX & Design Thinking

What is Red Badger Design School?

The Red Badger Design School is a one day bootcamp where non-designers (Red Badger employees and clients alike) learn about UX design, by going through the design process from beginning to end.

I regularly organise and lead RBD School sessions, with an accessible teaching style and plenty of Pokemon references.

Groups range between 10 and 30 students, and we’ve also adapted our material to run the workshop for charities.

What topics do you cover?

At RBD School, we go through the whole double diamond process in a day, through a mix of lectures and group activities.

Topics covered include:

  • What is design thinking?
  • UX Research (Interviews, Affinity Mapping)
  • Problem Statements & Persona Creation
  • Insight Statements
  • Ideation
  • Hypothesis Creation
  • Prototyping & Testing (the best part!)

General Assembly: Visual Design & UI

Leading Visual Design

At General Assembly, I teach budding UXers the basics of visual design in 5  to 10 days, as part of the 12-week intensive UX Design course.

Feedback

“Kim is great. She’s really positive and kind, but also manages to earn everyone’s respect and keep the class in order. Keep being you!”

Really liked Kim – thought her feedback was very useful. Also her great Sketch tips. She explained things really well.”

“We love you! Haven’t been this inspired and learned as much since starting the course.”

What topics do you cover?

During the Visual Design sessions, we make our way through the topics below, with allocated time for practical exercises, technical demos, and plenty of questions.

  • Branding: What & How
  • Visual thinking methods
  • Principles & Elements of Design, Gestalt Theory
  • Colour Theory
  • Typography
  • Design Systems & Styleguides
  • Responsive  & Adaptive Design
  • Sketch Demos

Design Flight Manual

To support Junior designers joining the team (and to refresh my own memory), I distilled both design theory and practical tips into a Product Design Flight Manual. It is a one-stop shop to accompany you as you tackle a new design project, as a consultant.

The result? You can focus on solving user problems and making things beautiful, rather than remembering how to set up your Sketch files.
